The Kremlin is not afraid of political rivals, but Russians "will not stand" for Ukraine-style coups, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at his annual press conference. He accused the opposition of a lack of ideas.
A judge has denied a request by prosecutors to put former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili under house arrest. He is accused of trying to bring down the Ukrainian president.
Earlier this week Mikheil Saakashvili was dramatically busted out of police custody by a mob of supporters. But authorities have now taken him back into custody.
Pro-Russian Viktor Yanukovych and his son have been accused of stealing vast sums from the public purse. A top European Union court has now upheld a freeze on his assets.
