The first international specialists sent to Iran to help with earthquake-related needs left the country on Tuesday. The first team from Germany's federal disaster relief organization, THW, and the Red Cross were on their way back to Germany. Another disaster relief team remained, however, to prepare the construction of a drinking water system. Various news agencies reported that the number of casualties was likely much higher than previously suspected. Reuters reported that as many as 50,000 may have died in the earthquake that flattened the historic city of Bam in southeastern Iran.
