Paul Malong, a former ally of President Salva Kiir, has announced his new opposition party will participate in upcoming peace talks. The move has been seen as a form of rebellion during an already-fractured civil war.
More than 1 million people fleeing South Sudan's civil war have sought refuge in Uganda, according to the United Nations. Uganda has called for help with housing and feeding the newcomers.
Justice and respect for human rights is what the exiled activist, Pierre Claver Mbonimpa, wants for Burundi. In May 2018, Burundians will vote in a referendum that could extend President Nkurunziza's term until 2034.
