More than 1.2 million internally displaced people live in Afghanistan, according to a report by Amnesty International. The number has more than doubled in the past three years. Many refugees live in "horrific" conditions, on the brink of survival.
The Taliban has killed 43 government troops at a military base in southern Afghanistan, the Defense Ministry reports. Nine soldiers were wounded and six remain missing, according to a statement from the ministry.
