Baba joins Chelsea

Augsburg Commercial Manager Stefan Reuter has confirmed that Abdul Rahman Baba has joined Premier League side Chelsea. It's the club's record player sale and gives the small Bavarian team a relatively massive war chest.

Augsburg's Abdul Rahman Baba has officially joined Premier League club Chelsea on a four-year contract. The deal is worth a reported fee of 25 million euros (27.7 million dollars).

"I thank all those responsible, coaches and fans of Augsburg for their support last year," Baba Rahman told Augsburg's club website. "The chance to play at a top club in England makes it a simple choice, even if I actually planned on a long-term stay in Augsburg a year ago. I felt very comfortable at the club and will continue to follow them in the future."

The club's have agreed to not reveal the exact transfer fee for the Ghanaian international. Augsburg paid around 2 million euros (2.2 million dollars) to acquire Baba Rahman from Greuther Fürth in 2014.

"Baba Rahman has developed tremendously with us for a year and made a hugeleap," Augsburg commercial manager Stefan Reuter said. "It's a reward not just for his achievements, but also for our work, if international giants like Chelsea are interested in signing him. We wish him well in England."

The fullback made 31 Bundesliga appearances for Augsburg and becomes the 10th Bundesliga player to move to the Premier League this summer. The fees of which equal upwards of 110.3 million euros (122.9 million dollars).
