Hamburg’s historical links to England are fostered nowadays in wide-ranging business ties to the UK. The northern German city is also home to thousands of Brits, many of whom say they feel right at home there
– and not just because of the weather.
It's the second day of British Prime Minister Theresa May's three day trip to Japan. The visit is an attempt to boost trade ties ahead of the UK's departure from the European Union. May has been trying to allay Japanese concerns about the impact of Brexit on business. And it seems, on the surface at least, to be working.
The EU's chief Brexit negotiator says the bloc won't wait much longer for the UK to agree to settle its Brexit bill if trade talks are to take place in January. EU officials say the UK may have to pay up to €60 billion.
Prime Minister Theresa May has urged a summit of European leaders to lay out a plan for Brexit negotiations to move forward. But her EU counterparts say they first need to see more concrete offerings from the UK's side.
