Between 60 and 70,000 Syrians are stranded in a makeshift refugee camp in Rukban, in a no-man's land between the Syrian and Jordanian borders. The humanitarian conditions are described as dire. DW’s Tania Krämer reports.
Over 1,000 fighters from Iran have fallen in Syria. Many of them were refugees from Afghanistan. They were persuaded to go to war for high wages and residence permits for their families.
A partial ceasefire brokered by the US and Russia appears to have held in southwestern Syria. Government and opposition delegations holding a seventh round of UN-sponsored talks in Geneva.
The UN refugee agency UNHCR has said that more than 5 million people have fled Syria during its six-year conflict. It called on the international community to do more to help them.
