A Prize-Winning Report

The report "The Escapee and the Border Guard Major" by Alexander Feist won a gold medal in the "Political Documentary" category at the World Media Festival in Hamburg.

Bernhard Fey was badly wounded by a spring gun whilst attempting to escape from communist East Germany across the inner-German border in 1975. East German Border Guard Major Gerhard Lehmann was on duty in the sector where Fey tried to cross that day. Both men tell their stories and talk about how they feel about communist East Germany, the Berlin Wall and the barbed wire today.

On that day, Gerhardt Lehmann was in the East German army and in charge of the relevant sector of the border.
