Wim Wenders is known as a film director. But now, at the age of 71, he's switched genres and come up with a gem; he’s staged Georges Bizet's "The Pearl Fishers" at Berlin's State Opera with conductor Daniel Barenboim.
He's known for films like "Wings of Desire" and "Buena Vista Social Club," but now Wim Wenders is venturing into opera. Next year at the Berlin State Opera he'll direct a work by Bizet, conducted by Daniel Barenboim.
After closing for renovations in 2010, the new and improved Staatsoper is finally re-opening. Here are some things about this historic venue you may not have known.
