Foundress of SOLWODI (Solidarity with Women in Distress)
Sr. Dr. Dr. h.c. Lea Ackermann, born in Germany in 1937, founded SOLWODI in Kenya in 1985. Today there are 10 counseling centers in Kenya, 15 in Germany as well as one in Rwanda and one in Romania. SOLWODI helps women who have become victims of human trafficking, forced prostitution, forced marriage and domestic violence. For her achievements, Sr. Lea has been presented with many awards including the Federal cross of Merit (1996) and Woman of Europe (1998). For more information, please refer to www.solwodi.de
