Kolkata, India: A driver of one of the last solely human-powered rickshaws waits for customers under a streetlamp in late-night Kolkata on April 10, 2011. Due to human rights issues, almost all rickshaws in India are now powered by bicycle or motorcycle. Against the government's efforts to ban the more traditional vehicles, one still finds them in the central neighborhoods of Kolkata due to the extreme poverty of the drivers, who are often homeless. Their earnings are the best during the monsoon season, when the city's streets are flooded and inaccessible to all other types of vehicles.
